9 Months of Non-Fiction

So, every once and a while a crazy idea pops into my head and I can't get it out. These ideas are generally bad ideas that I don't have the bandwidth for. But they pop into my head and rattle around like the bb in a can of spray paint all the same.

What if for the next nine months I only read non-fiction?

This might seem trivial but it's honestly something I struggle with both in reading and writing. As an author, I delve deep into either wing of literature and writing foregoing the other as my mood suits me. What I noticed is that I lose productivity because I want what's on the other side of the bookish fence the second I jump over it.

Then the idea of renting my attention came to me like much of my weird ideas.

What if I rented the concept of non-fiction writing for a nine-month mission trip of the mind. I would only stay long enough to get some deep work and research done. As a non-fiction writer myself this kind of work/play between the pages of a book in inevitable and extremely worthwhile after the fact, but it has no dragons and space ships, no teenage angst and drama. I would do this all with the goal of a year of fiction waiting for me at the other end.

What if?

Let's find out.

Here's the TBR Cart. shamelessly stolen from Instagram.
