Mark Has Some Good News, Part 72, Is Your Youth Group Christian Or Just Safe?

Mark 16:

The Great Commission

14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. 15 And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover."

19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

If you come to the end of your reading of the gospels you'll find the book of acts. And what it will do is cause you to doubt in the effectiveness of churches that focus on discipleship. That's a bold statement but Jesus never told his followers to focus on themselves and make sure they have ministries that provide options for good Christian people. This is a problem as a number of youth groups are no more than clubs where church kids can come and try to bring their friends for the same games year in year out and meagre selection high starch and sugar foods used as a bait for attendance number.

Let's try an experiment with the word of Jesus on the same page to see how Christ-like your youth group is.

Put a piece of blank paper on a table.

Write down the names of everyone you can justly say you know in your community and school.

Write down the names of all the people you personally have shared the gospel with this year.

Write down the number of people you personally disciple on a let say a weekly basis.

The words "all" and "whole" have nothing to do with you once you have come to know Christ. But they have everything to do with all the people you know or could know and the whole community you live in. The biblical youth group is not one that gives you a safe place to behave it's one that gives you the good news that Mark has been sharing with us for 72 post's for you to proclaim to everyone else. So if your paper has a lot of names in the known column but none in the gospel column, stop acting like a Christian and start being one like Jesus commissioned you to be!
