Mark Has Some Good News, Part 41, Rock-People-Children

Mark 10:

Let the Children Come to Me

13 And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." 16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

I love that word "indignant" it's the beautiful part of this verse that makes it so funny!

In one corner we have band of good intention disciples, and in the other a savior who has just mentioned his feelings about the trifecta of kids, sinners and stones. What happens next is palpably dumb and perfectly simple all in one rebuke. You can almost see Jesus giving them a WTF face before talking to them about their actions (don't worry kids there's a chapter where I explain how I think Jesus swore coming up later.)

Jesus likes kids and wants not just them to run to him but all of us. He doesn't like pulling you out of a drunken party that you passed out at. Doesn't want you to find him in a bathroom stall with a + or a - out of marriage. He doesn't want to find you stoned in a van in a ditch when you're friends though they could drive.

Jesus wants us to run when we see him, happy and loving knowing that he is the best and that we want to be with him.
