Mark Has Some Good News, Part 2, Getting In Shape For Ministry

The Temptation of Jesus
The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.
Jesus Begins His Ministry
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:12-15 (ESV)

How many of us work out?

I mean seriously take our health in consideration in how we move about day to day. Do we live in the realization that our beer belly and complete lack of cardio is all that’s keeping our mind around? Do we stretch out selves? Flex a bit? Exert some force when needed? Could we make it a marathon effort if we had to? And aside from all that intellectual and spiritual work are we keeping the beer belly we blame on our hot wife's cooking off?

I mean we don't drink at all regardless of how biblical it is. Yeah that's what we tell our church (we'll talk about that later ok....ok)

Back to the gospel.

Are we preparing ourselves for the ministry God has for us to do. Modeling ourselves after Jesus who we read here went toe to toe with Satan in a 40 day theological showdown. We may not assume it but we should know, that scriptures are the big guns Satan will use to temp people. If he used it on Jesus who perfect you better believe he'll use them on the rest of us. Just look what happened to the emergent movement (that was mean but I meant it). So what's your work out look like. How often, long, concentrated, or effective is your training.

Because Jesus shows us and Mark keeps it simple, that before his ministry Jesus prepared and tested for it. Are you prepared and have you been tested?

We have the combined collection of nearly all human information in the palms of our hands these days. Smart phones that can bring you answers in seconds that took the early saints lifetimes to find. There really isn't an excuse for not keeping your mind sharp. The amount of free, relevant, information for you to absorb, reflect and use has never been bigger.

It's not just youth group activity books anymore. You can get world class resources from multiple authors, preachers, theologians, all free through the interwebz.

So get off your current MMO, stop posting silly irreverent stuff on the same internet that can make you a threat to the devil. And stay sharp.
